Josh & Kyndal Schley
SS Goldierocks “Remix” is owned by Josh and Kyndal Schley of Slash S Ranch. They currently reside in Mountain Park, OK with four children Colby (18), Cadence (16), Madisyn (6), and Maddox (1) but are looking to relocate to Lipan, TX in the coming years to expand the operation.
Josh and Kyndal met in June 2015 at the historic Reno Rodeo. Kyndal was living in southeast Texas at the time and working as a pharmacist at the local Target. She had used all of her PTO for the year and put it together to be able to go out west for the 4th of July rodeos. With 10 rodeos in 14 days planned, the trip didn’t exactly start out on the right foot. Three blown tires and a cracked rimmed later, she arrived to Reno at 5am the morning of her 10am slack. The generator wouldn’t start, and the hot water heater would not light. It was 107 degrees in Reno that day with no air conditioner and no shower. This was going to make a long two weeks. As fate would have it (or maybe divine intervention), her stalls were on the same row as Josh’s, a veteran of the rodeo trail with a knack and a reputation for being handy, Josh is a man that can quite literally fix anything if you give him the right tools. He had the generator running almost immediately and the hot water heater shortly thereafter. He saved the day, or even let’s call it the whole trip. As it turned out, Josh and Kyndal had very similar trips that 4th of July. They would meet again at Greeley, Livingston, and Cody. All the miles between the rodeos they spent time on the phone, and let’s just say the rest is the beginning of what they hope becomes a legacy that they can pass down to their children.
Josh and Kyndal got married January 29, 2016 and moved back to where Kyndal grew up in the northwest corner of Louisiana. After finding a suitable piece of land and laying out a plan for a home and a facility they set out to build a horse program that would hopefully help Kyndal achieve her dreams and goals of one day making the NFR in the barrel racing. That year Josh would buy Kyndal a 2 year old palomino gelding named “Baileys Packin Heat” (aka Pistol) by Heats Hustler and out of a Packin Sixes mare, Bailey Packin Gold. This gelding would be Kyndal’s first futurity horse to train from start to finish on the barrels. Little did they know at that time the purchase of that horse would develop a relationship with Robyn Herring, who happens to own FWOTR, one of the industries leading barrel sires. Through that relationship and through Pistol the familiarity of Robyn’s breeding program would be something that Josh and Kyndal paid attention to in the years to come. Fast forward to February 23, 2018, Josh and Kyndal were headed to the American rodeo in Arlington, TX. As Kyndal scrolled facebook she came across a picture of a brand new palomino stud colt out of that great Packin Sixes mare, Bailey Packin Gold, and this time the colt was by Firewaterontherocks. She immediately screen shotted the picture and sent it to Josh who was helping some guys prepare for the rodeo that day and said, “Pistols brother is born!!! I want him!!!” To this Josh replied, “You got him.” He immediately contacted Robyn to try to purchase the colt, but someone else had already requested first option on the cross. Robyn would have to get back with us if they passed. Well, they passed, and we were now the proud owners of the baby now known as SS Goldierocks!
Although Josh and Kyndal had very different upbringings in their families in regards to the horse industry one of the main things they hold in common is the desire to own and train outstanding performance horses. Between barrel racing and roping as well as cattle ranching they had both grown to love and appreciate great quality horses that were bred for the work and given every opportunity to excel.
The conversations in the early days as well as today never steer far away from horses and the future competition in their beloved events. When horses are a very part of your souls as it may seem there isn’t much that will take you away from that path. As they began to consider what future would lie ahead they discussed how they would impact the industry or things that they would like to see to improve it or to at least make a positive impact. You will see almost every post in regards to Remix will be followed by that hashtag “HighTide.” This stems from Josh’s favorite quote, “A rising tide lifts all boats.” (Zig Ziglar) Ziglar was referring to the thought that an improved economy will benefit all participants. For Josh and Kyndal, they want Remix to be the high tide for everyone that comes in contact with him. They want him to be the one that lifts everyone up. Remix is the #HighTide.
